Building Better Habits,
One Operation at a Time
We are a Kuala Lumpur advisory firm that works with Malaysian businesses to examine and improve how they use resources — without jargon, without regulatory pressure, and without overpromising.
Back to HomeHow Vellumind Came to Be
Vellumind grew out of a straightforward observation: a lot of Malaysian businesses wanted to handle their materials, energy, and supplier relationships more thoughtfully, but the advice available to them felt either too heavily tied to regulatory frameworks or too expensive for the scale of change they had in mind.
We set up in Kuala Lumpur to fill that gap — an advisory practice that talks about operations plainly, suggests what seems achievable, and lets the business decide what to act on. No certifications to sell, no audits to conduct, no compliance clock ticking.
The name is drawn from vellum — the dense, enduring material used for documents meant to last. We liked the idea of advice that holds its shape over time, rather than trend-driven frameworks that need replacing every few years.
What We Are Here to Do
Clarity Over Complexity
We translate what we observe into notes that any operations manager can read without a sustainability background.
Respect for Business Reality
Suggestions are weighed against what a business can realistically change given its size, sector, and current pressures.
Continuity of Improvement
We frame sustainability as ongoing stewardship, not a one-time project — something that builds slowly and holds over time.

How We Conduct Our Work
Confidentiality of Client Information
Operational details shared with us are held with care. We do not use client information in other engagements or share it with third parties without written consent.
Plain-Language Deliverables
All notes, plans, and reports are written in straightforward English. We edit until a non-specialist can act on the content without needing to ask what it means.
Scoped and Agreed Before We Start
We agree what the engagement will cover, what it will produce, and how long it will take before any work begins. Changes to scope are discussed openly.
No Regulatory Claims
Our advice does not constitute regulatory guidance. We are clear about this boundary in every engagement and will refer clients to appropriate bodies when formal requirements come up.
Feedback After Every Engagement
We ask clients to tell us what was useful and what was not. This shapes how we approach the next engagement and keeps our work grounded in what Malaysian businesses actually find helpful.
Knowledge Transfer, Not Dependency
Our goal is to leave you with tools and understanding your team can use independently. We do not design engagements that require ongoing involvement to remain useful.
Sustainability as Everyday Stewardship
The businesses we work with in Malaysia are generally mid-sized — somewhere between a small team that handles everything informally and a large organisation with a dedicated sustainability function. Most of them are thinking seriously about how they use materials, how much they spend on energy, and what their relationship with local suppliers looks like. They are not yet at the point of publishing formal reports, and they are not under pressure to do so. But they want to move in a more considered direction.
Vellumind exists for this space. We bring an outside perspective to everyday operations — looking at where materials come from, how they move through the business, and what happens to them at the end. We note what seems straightforward to improve and what would require more significant change. We present both honestly.
Working in Kuala Lumpur gives us proximity to the businesses we serve and familiarity with local supply chain conditions, utility infrastructure, and the pace at which Malaysian operations typically move. We do not apply frameworks designed for European or North American markets without adjusting them to what is realistic here.
Our engagements range from a single working session and a short written note to a multi-month programme with workshops and a tracking sheet. The choice between them depends on where a business is starting from and how much capacity it has to absorb and act on advice. We discuss this candidly before any engagement begins.
